WSPTA HISTORY
Founded in 1905, the Washington Congress of Parents and Teachers, now known as the Washington State Parent Teacher Association (WSPTA), is the largest non-profit, volunteer organization in Washington. As the premier parent organization, with over 80,000 members in more than 830 local PTAs, the association is an innovative, forward-thinking, and effective advocate for children.
LYPTSA HISTORY
Lake Youngs PTSA 9 was established in 1965, the same year that Lake Youngs Elementary opened it’s doors. Parent, family and community involvement has been a priority at Lake Youngs from the very beginning. We have a long legacy of investing into our students and our school and hope we can carry on the legacy for a long time.
WHY JOIN?
Joining Lake Youngs PTSA helps us continue the work started over 57 years ago. When you join you automatically get a voice in how we operate and what we prioritize. PTSA members are invited to General Membership Meetings where we vote on any big changes, the standing rules, the budget and each term’s Executive Board. We are part of the National Parent Teacher Association® (PTA) which is the oldest child advocacy organization in the United States. The National PTA provides parents and families with a powerful legislative voice to speak on behalf of every child and the best tools to help their children be safe, healthy, and successful—in school and in life.
Your membership is your voice (legislative voice) for the children of Lake Youngs Elementary. The more members our PTSA has, the more voting delegates we receive at the state level. More voting delegates means more votes that support the interests of Lake Youngs Elementary and its families. Our kids are worth the investment and a strong PTSA illustrates our community’s support to our school and children.
DO I NEED TO VOLUNTEER?
It is completely up to each member how active of you would like to be. You are invited to join our wonderful volunteers in the programs and events we plan for the year, and we highly encourage it! Volunteering with PTSA can look 100 different ways, there is something for everyone and every schedule! Volunteering with PTSA is rewarding and impactful, Lake Youngs relies upon PTSA and our volunteers for so many important programs, grants and activities.
ANYONE CAN JOIN!
PTSA membership is open to everyone, parents, grandparents, friends and community members! PTSA is an inclusive organization and we invite all adults who care about children and schools to join. Although you may still participate in PTSA activities without a formal membership, by joining you gain the right to vote on PTSA issues - from board members to budgets!
